Life coaching and mindfulness

What is life coaching?

In In life coaching you talk confidentially to someone who is trained at helping you work out what you want in life and how you can get it. The life coach listens carefully, and asks questions to find out more. This can help you understand yourself better and work out how you can get from where you are now to where you want to be.

Life coaching is not the same as counselling or therapy, which helps people to resolve deep-seated issues from the past. Nor is it advice, which provides a prescription for what you should do. Instead, you take the driving seat, set the agenda, and make a start on what comes next in your life on your own terms.

In this project, you will have six 1-1 sessions with the life coach over a three-month period. The life coach will help you find the powerful resources you've already got; and then to overcome obstacles and take action to make things start really happening for you.

What is mindfulness training?

Mindfulness is a scientifically-proven way of training your mind to be stronger and clearer, so that you can deal with stress, feel better in yourself, and think more clearly. It is a simple skill that anyone can learn. It is all about paying attention in the present moment observing and understanding your own experiences: your thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

Recent research has shown that mindfulness training can completely alter the way your brain works, so that you can feel more calm and positive in your daily life. It can improve your ability to concentrate, solve problems, deal with stress, and feel better in yourself.

You'll learn these powerful skills in a group of 12 people over 6 fortnightly sessions of 2.5 hours each. It will include simple activities meditation, gentle physical exercise, and a little bit of writing. In between each session of the course, you are invited to do a few activities at home just 30-40 minutes each day.

What's the point of doing both life coaching and mindfulness?

Life coaching and mindfulness training fit very well together as ways of understanding your mind, working out what your really want from life, and then to starting to make that happen. They are both based on the belief that you are the expert on your life, and no-one else. So the life coach/mindfulness course leader helps you work out what you want to do, rather than telling you what to do.
