Patrick's story
Patrick is an Irish resident living in sheltered accommodation in Tower Hamlets.
Patrick was referred to Down to Earth by the local hospice as his brother Sean had passed away. Patrick himself was elderly and frail and being treated for prostate cancer. He was concerned about handling the funeral planning process, especially how to choose a funeral director and arrange a dignified funeral within the tight budget of his brother's insurance policy.
Patrick came to a meeting at our offices with his daughter. We shared the quotes we had found for him from several funeral directors which met his needs, which included one for £2,600. This was over £600 less than Patrick had been quoted before approaching Down to Earth, and he now felt reassured that he would have enough money within the budget to arrange the funeral without getting into debt.
To
save money and make the day feel more meaningful, we supported Patrick to
arrange for the wake to be held in Sean’s favourite café, not far from the funeral
venue.
