Arranging a funeral

If you're arranging a funeral: it's important to understand that there are certain elements that you have to pay for; and others that are optional.

Last year over 200 people came to us for help with arranging an affordable and meaningful funeral. We have supported over 500 clients to date.

"Accepting the fact of death, we are freed to live more fully.

In bereavement give yourself time to grieve.

When others mourn, let your love embrace them."

If you are on a low income we can help you cope with bereavement. We will give you advice and guidance so you can chose how you want to say goodbye. Our trained mentors can accompany you as you make funeral preparations. We can help negotiate the arrangements and costs with funeral directors so it is meaningful and affordable.

If you expect to die soon, because you are terminally ill or you are elderly and live on a low income, we can help you prepare for death. We can help you put in place the arrangements that you need to make it easier for your family when you're gone.

Have you talked to people you love about what you want to happen when you die? It can be frightening being all alone and not knowing what to do. Make a will and talk to your family about the funeral that you would like to have before it is too late.

Our mentors will help you to deal with any aspect of planning a funeral, from applying to the Social Fund to thinking about venues and services.

Call the Down to Earth helpline on 020 8983 5055. We will answer within office hours. If you are calling outside of these times, please leave a message and we will get back to you. You can also email
