New Philanthropy Capital recommends QSA

New research on financial inclusion conducted by New Philanthropy Capital, ‘Shortchanged’, points to Quaker Social Action’s effective work in this area and recommends QSA to interested donors and funders.

NPC work to advise donors and funders on how to give more effectively. They assess a handful of excellent charities, offering an impartial eye to potential donors about the credibility and integrity of particular charities. NPC’s assessment process is extremely rigorous, so to be recommended by the organisation is a major achievement for QSA. They describe QSA as “an innovative organisation that makes a valuable contribution to tackling poverty and isolation in east London” and have been particularly impressed by the quality of data we use to evidence our effectiveness.

On hearing of the recommendation, Philip Hume, Trustee of the Hadley Trust and supporter of QSA commented:

"We are delighted that the work of QSA has been acknowledged with a New Philanthropy Capital recommendation. Local, grassroots, pioneering service development is key to a vigorous voluntary sector and to generating strategies that move towards a more inclusive society. We have long invested in QSA for exactly this reason."

The new NPC report, which outlines how donors and funders can promote financial inclusion, features two QSA projects; Made of Money, which supports low-income families to talk, listen and learn about money and its impact on their lives; and Street Cred, which empowers women to realise their potential by progressing their business ideas.

The NPC report, ‘Shortchanged’ is available from the NPC website, www.philanthropycapital.org

To coincide with the launch of the report, a special edition of the Friend has been produced with financial inclusion as its theme. Articles have been contributed by Street Cred founder Jenifer Kavanagh, QSA director Judith Moran, Knees Up project manager Edward Mackay and NPC research analyst Esther De Jong. You can access these articles from the Friend website via here.
